Just a Field of Ice

It is rare to see Lake Agawam so totally frosted over. I would not trust this ice for a walk over.

Frost Heave

Dramatic ice crystals grew up out of the sand at Little Plains Beach.

False Beach

Lurking under this apparent sand dune is a snow drift.There has been a good strong wind and very cold air. The hump is made up of about an inch of sand layered over a snow drift. If you step on this "dune" you might sink in up to your knee.

One Fish, Two Fish

These fine fish made by John Rist may be found on Jobs Lane. I bought one years ago and still love it.

Frost & Freeze

With a dark roof to melt the snow in the day time and very cold nights it has been good weather for growing icicles.

Drifter

The recent snow storm came in colder than most of our snowstorms. The combination of  wind and the light fluffy snow made some interesting snow drifts.

Looking from my bathroom windon, light from the sun rise just caught the crowns of village trees.

At 5:00 pm we had 6 inches on the side table. If it keeps snowing till 9:00 I will expect  a lot more than 12 inches.

There seems to be a growing niche of photography that explores their work in the school of color field painting. These artists are more interested in the blocks of color than in the subject of the photograph.

This nice clear day at the beach was actually earlier in the week.

The last few days have been much damper.

Morning Fog

This morning it was very fogg, it cleared mid day, then the fog came back this evening.

We are lucky not to have ice.

I was surprised to see deer tracks at the beach today. I am not sure what they could find to eat there but they seem to look everywhere. 

January Thaw

After two weeks of sub freezing weather we have had 4 warm days in a row. Today with tempatures  in the low 50's we did a quick project. It was time to move my power line underground. With a great team we got the new cable planted in one day.

Big Surf

After yesterdays storm the surf was rocking today.

Bramble at Old Town Beach

Weeds and shrubs can show some nice colors in their bark in the winter.

Ice Age

Yes that is a paddle boarder Fergus Sloan of FMS Paddle Sports way out in the Peconic Bay. There was no wind and the bay this day and the water was very flat, but the water is also very cold with great chunks of ice floating in it.

Even in winter this brick wall glows in the afternoon sun.

Northern Light

My front hall window faces due north. the glass was fully frosted over at sunrise this morning. For the first time in to or three years we have single digit temperatures.

Ice Calving in the Hamptons

On the Thursday the tempatre dipped into the teens, then it warmed up into the high 40's today. The warm spell encouraged ice calving in my swimming pool. We have much colder weather coming for the next few days. This year we drained down the pool for the winter.

Hampton Zombies

Where are the "Hamptons" some feel they begin when one goes east of the canal. That does not explain Westhampton or Hampton Bays. Southampton town goes to Riverhead. On the east end do the Hamptons end with East Hampton or go on to include Amagansett an Montauk? Some zombies pose in Amagansett.

Flip Flop

Weight from the snow made the pool cover pop. When things thaw out I can reset the covers.

Storm Plans

If a storm is coming I park my car behind the tree. If I do not park here I get a big snow drift in my driveway. This makes digging out much easier.

Just a Dusting

This morning we got just a bit of snow. The snow was pushed around with more wind than usual. We have been told that much more wind and snow are on the way tonight.

Holiday Fare

Saute chicken sausage and onion, ad black-eyed peas cooked in chicken stock, season to taste mash it all together and wrap in sections of blanched collards.

Thin cream cheese with sour cream, mix in capers, smoked salmon, lemon zest, fresh tarragon, when all is well blended stir in red caviar. Pipe onto the endive.
