Up Up and Away

The Hampton Classic Horse show is in full swing this week. We had a nice view from the front row of the bleachers opening day. I was there again today. The jumps are much higher now!

The Green Egress

We entered the Madoo Garden along the western path so we chose to leave via the eastern path leaving the big green egress.

Blood Grass Madoo

This twist in the garden path has a nice border of blood grass. We often have need of a nice photo of blood grass. I like the mix of shapes and textures in this view.

Almost the mirror location from the entry bridge this covered loggia provides nice framed views of the Madoo Gardens at this corner of the garden.

More Madoo

Coming out from the wood you might encounter these dramatic evergreen arches a nice setting for an Alice in Wonderland tea party.

Live Gum Drops

Further into the garden one comes across this squad of boxwood balls cavorting through a wood. How he gets these shrubs to flourish in shade I can not imagine.

West Entry

Today we went to Robert Dash's garden Madoo. The garden is located on a shy two acres in Sagaponack, New York. After entering the garden if one turns to the west you should enter the garden over this bridge. I have always liked entering the garden in this way.

New for Me

I do not recall seeing this vine before. Now that I am aware of it I have spotted it in a few places. In some spots its growth has been very vigorous.

Little Surprise

We have all heard the Frogs that live in the trees. I had never seen one before this night.

All Clear

When a forested area is mature the tree canopy has moved up high leaving the ground below fairly open. With the floor open like this there is not much for a deer to eat. The burbs with all our lush green plants are the best thing that ever happened for deer.

Into the Woods

There is a very nice nature trail off Deer Field Road across from the entrance to North Side Hills. At the entry there is a map posted that shows the trails in the area. The trail is clear and in good repair as shown here.

Saturday Night

This year we decorated the Bridgehampton Beach Club for the annual Animal Rescue Fund Beach Ball Party.  The honoree was Candy Udell the owner of London Jewelers, the theme for the night was jewel tones. Here are two shots from the event just before all the people piled in.

New Building Lot

There are very few vacant lots in Southampton Village. It is also very expensive per foot to renovate an older structure. This house is being removed to a newer home can be built in it's place.

Later Afternoon

There is a special moment many evenings when the sun is lower in the sky and the light rakes the tops of the marsh grass giving it a golden glow.

Working Garden

A modern working garden often makes good use of plastics. The large tube is a simple green house made by pulling a large plastic tarp over metal tubes mounted in the ground. The black plastic is used to control weeds and direct water in rows of vegetables outside the hothouse.

Garden Party

There was birthday party this Saturday for Fleurette Guilloz. It was truly a garden party as it took place in her famous garden in North Sea.

Get-A-Way

This cottage tucked in the corner of a Water Mill home. The smart choice of color adds to the appeal.

Private Property

There are two islands located in the bays between the North and South Forks of Long Island. The larger is Shelter Island with two ferries, stores, inns and a marina. The other island is Robin's Island. Robins Island is the private residence of one family.

Handsom Rocks

Large rocks appear in a few spots on the bay beach here. These rocks occur naturally unlike the rocks that are placed in groins and other designs to stabilize the ocean beaches.

Red on Right Returning

This quiet back water creek has simple wooden sticks with red pennants to mark the channel. The code is when returning to port the red marker should be on the right of your boats bow. If you look further back you will see that the sticks direct your boat to the left of center to avoid a submerged sand bar.

What do Deer Eat

From the looks of this row of trees deer eat anything they can reach. I was amazed when I realized that it was deer that had under cut these trees so evenly.

Strange Critter

When I walked out the door this morning I spotted this frog. This was a surprise as I am staying in the woods not close to any marsh or pond. I was sure that this is a frog, not a toad. I did some research and learned this is a Wood Frog, they live on dry land and only need water for breeding in the spring.

Fine Tree

I liked this fine Willow that graces the drive of a home in the estate area. These trees look best when set on a great lawn like here.

Up Not Aaway

They used a truck with a cherry picker to hike up a worker and get the spars on the flap pole painted.

North Sea Mountain

This man made mount was closed to further additions around 1980. Maybe the highest point on the south fork it can be spotted from most all of the surrounding bays. The view from the top is fantastic.

The Bomb

When I was in High School outside of Washington DC I would see cars like this from time to time. For me the Jaguar XKE was the bomb. Much hotter than it's American brother the Vet. Both cars are truly two seaters with barely a truck or boot as the case may be.
