Much of the beach along Shinnecock Bay is small rocks set in sand.

Snow Movement

This morning I had a huge front yard stretching out into Bowden Square.

 

Later today they piled up the snow to clear more of the square

I now have a giant mountain in my front yard.

The snow mound by Chase Bank was one of the big ones.

 

Main roads and side streets are very slick.

 

Snow is trucked out of the way to beach parking lots to melt off.

 

The wind cleared most of the snow in the dog park, they parking area is still snowed in.

The Big Storm

The storm is two days off, but very much on everyone's mind. I like this vapor trail in the winter sky.

 

Snowy Mix

This morning my driveway was a giant snow cone, that wet slushy mix of ice & water.

I got an email from the Tate about a show of late Turner paintings. The images in the email looked a lot like this.

Best Beach

There is a beach on Meadow Lane, a good ways down at about the 1700 block. The parking is very limited and only open to village residents. I think this beach is very nice with raised walkways through the dunes affording bay and ocean views.

Winter Shades

Winter light at Long Beach in Sag Harbor. Google calls this body of water Noyack Bay.

What is in a Name

There seems to be more than one opinion about how to spell Noyac. When I saw a title report about a property with a Noyack Road address they covered the issue with an AKA. It seems the town is not sure either.

 

 

Winter Dunes

While the wild grass sleeps its old stalks catch the wind blown sand to rebuild the dunes.

Weather Patterns

So far we have had cold and clear (16^) next day warm and wet (54^). Either is better than cold and wet, as that can get messy fast. It seems strange to me when the temperature here goes up overnight

Distant Lands

When my buddy TJ moved to Florida he gave me this painting he made from his hunting trips in Africa. It hangs near my bedroom, I like it a lot.

Apple Sauce

Damaged fruit is left at the tree's base so the nutrients can return to the tree. Rows of yellow apples in the back still hold their color. The place smelled like a cider mill.

This Old House

On older homes when getting down to the bones this pre plywood siding would be the ribs.

Modern Gem

This new home on Meadow Lane in Southampton makes good use of the flood plain code to float the house on it's lot.

Tree Camping

This tree will be staying in a tent this winter. The tent is designed to reduce wind burn while allowing partial sun to enter.

This tub set in an alcove affords amazing ocean and bay views.

Freeze UP

Shinnecock Bay full of ice from the cold weather the last few days.

Screw Up

I park in front of this tree often when stopping off at Carpet Man Southampton. The snow really brought it to life.

Cold Blast

This large dark cloud was the leading edge of a cold front coming into the area. When I passed under the cloud the temperature dropped from 23 to 18 in about 2 miles.

It's a Wrap

This alien tree pod was spotted on 10th Avenue. So far no signs of this invasion have been spotted in the Hamptons. (yesterday's post)

Full Moon

This tree near the Southampton Car Wash is lit up like a fan of coral. The full moon peeks over a branch.

Cold Blast

A cold front blew all the fog out overnight. Bright skies with much colder temperatures today.

Fog at High Noon

The ocean was all churned up today, I could hear it almost 2 miles away.

Wet One

This years jewel tone light look great in the night rain.

New Year's Holiday Foods

After par boiling, collard greens drain on paper towels before being chopped and added to black-eyed peas and sautéed onion. Collards greens are for money, black-eyed peas are for luck, all god things on New Year's Day.
