Hampton Land South

Hampton House was completed in 1790 by the Ridgely family. At that time, it was the largest home in North America. The Ridgely Family continued to occupy the property up to 1945. The home's design was based on manor houses in England. Surprisingly this home is located in Towson Maryland more than 300 miles south of the Hamptons we know.

Late Bloomer ?

With temperatures in the 60's this December my magnolia has buds. But I have not seen a bud open yet.

 

Rock & Roll

The surf was so loud today, it could be heard all over the village. The waves were huge and never stopped.

Duck the Halls

The famous Flanders Duck is all set for the holidays.

The main shopping streets in Southampton Village are all lit up again this winter.

Some bits of paving remind me of modern art works, like this Clifford Still in black-top, stripe and tar. 

Draw a House

The outline lighting on the house reminds of a child basic drawing of a house.

Draft Blocker

I have old windows on the front of my house. They do not fit very tight and I did not want storm windows on the front. This simple solution of a vinyl sheet mounted on a curtain bar has served me well the last few winters. I just pop them up for the cold seasons.

Turrtle Pond

In many spots along our shore there are ponds right on the back side of the ocean dunes. This pond is located near Fowler's Beach. The pond has large snapping turtles in the summer.

It was cold & windy at the beach today. Not a foot print in sight.

English Flair

There are a string of cottage like homes in Art Village all with what I think of as a strong English influence. Here is a view of one cottage, others will follow.

Dune Crest

Headed out to the beach I found this great view looking back to the land side.

Beach House

Classic beach house paeks over the dunes. 

Winter Lawn

I am not sure if it is the contrasting woody trees or the light coming fron a lower angle. Winter lawns can have a very special green glow till a deep frost puts them to sleep. 

Yesterday

The light was not good for making a photo today.

Twisted

Bits of seaweed get trapped in the sand. Then the wind blows the stem in a circle making this fun wear pattern that shows in late day sun.

Gin Lane, Southampton New York. The home on the right side of the street are ocean front, the homes to the left, more protected from the ocean often have fine gardens.

This bird looks safe for today. 

Stormy Day

It was a stormy day at the beach today. Most shots had way too many water spots from drops on my camera lens.

Blow Back

The other day the wind was blowing very hard off the land. So hard the wave's break has a long tail blown back out into the ocean. 

Viewing Towers

This raised platform, accessed by a bridge from the master bedroom has a very intimate feel to it when you are there. Lifting the deck allows for a great view over the reeds.

Ant View

I was sitting at lunch this summer and realized that I could see the underside of your umbrella and the sky beyond in my soup spoon. Nice clean spoon.

Hold that Line

This hedgerow of weeds is the line between the estate lawns and the open sand beach.

Beach Access

Groomed to perfection. The estate area in Southampton has tailored lawns and gardens right up to the beach. The hedges and road just run right up to the ocean. 

Drones in the Hamptons

Drones have come to the Hamptons to aid in showing property. This rig was used to photo this stylish lake front property.

That's a lot of Clams

This is just a small section of a long strip of empty clam shells that washed up on the beach at Little Plains Beach, Southampton

Farm Country

Still popular with farmers Sagaponac has broad flat areas accented with long ponds the call creeks. The "creeks are often separated from the ocean by just a dune line.

I was impressed with the choice of this Chippendale gallery on the roof of a newer home in Southampton Village.

Retail Style in East Hampton

The entrance to Tiffany on Main St. in East Hampton is very unassuming but then opens into this large dramatic two story space.

Clear Skys

After yesterdays stormy weather today we had bright blue skys. We have not had much rain this fall. It also seems that storms have had less rain than predicted. 

Dune Managment

Wood fencing is set at the beach to help dunes grow back.

Main Street

This stripe in the middle of Main St. Southampton Village, is connected to other road stripes all the way to the west coast. I can remember a lot of that drive.
