Hamptons UFO

This air borne chunk of firewood was captured by these wires as it flew through the air. Placing the wires near local roads helps to protect passing cars from flying logs.

Turkey a' la Webber

The first stage is 12 - 16 brickets banked on the sides of the grill. This grate has hinged sides that will let me add more coals durrng the cooking.

The raw turkey was brined over night, then rubbed with lemon and then olive oil.

MIND THE GAP- setting the top on with a nice crack to let air in is critical to having  a good fire. If you leave the top off, the heat escapes. If you put the top on tight the coals cool and the heat gets damp and that messes up the skin.

Here the bird is partially cooked. When I add charcoal I also add twigs of green wood to get a nice smoke going in the grills dome. If is is a windy day the gap will be very small to hold the heat. On this day there was no wind and I set a larger gap.

After about 5 hours on the grill the bird is cooked. I use a meat thermometer. After I take if off the grill I  then turned it over to rest for a bit before starting to carve.

Time Bomb

One good breeze and these seeds will be all over the yard.

Taken out of contex this corner of the banks property has the look of a classic English garden.

Chive Explosion

Today's rain opened a blast of chive blooms.

They are great in salads if you loose the woody stems.

Endless surf, yesterday we had multiple rows of breakers at Little Plains beach.

It is hard for me to imagine that these leaves have grown in less than two weeks!

White Magic

Riding along Gin Lane in Southampton we spotted the white deer grazing in a field. When I stopped to take the photo the deer as a group moved out of range.

Eddies is now all welded up, next stainless steel mounting brackets, then off to get RED.

Big Green and Scales

These are Monkey Puzzle trees now on view at Marders Nursery in Bridgehampton.  With large green scales I think they should be called armadilo trees

Ultimate Dash

The Jaguar XKE produced in the late 60's and early 70' was the bomb. With it's machine age black gauges, and banks of rocker switches.

Eddie Progress

I got a call this morning from John at Liberty Iron. Eddie was getting built ad they wanted me to check on the progress. At this stage the base is steel, but the head is still a wood mockup. I was told that the body section weighed about 250 ponds!

New Growth

Woodland plants are a curious group. Delicate and discrete I am surprised when they make it back. This spring a have three red trillium along my fence.

Hamptons Socialite Killed on North Sea Road

It turns out that the cat had an extensive social life in the village, known by a variety of names at multiple residences. Names included Ginger Cat, Mr Orange, Double White, and Pumpkin.
