This Evening

You can't see it here but there was a lot of wind to go with making this photo. Brrrrrrrrr

Sleek

Late evening winter sun puts a glow on the new Parrish Museum. The parking and entrance is on the back side of the building.

Low Tide

With the new lower and flatter beach profile the surf line is a little more complex. Winter storms may change the beach shape again before the summer season.

Big Fix

The Sag Harbor Library is getting an extensive make-over. This repair is so major that for a time they erected a temporary roof to protect the structure during this renovation.

Winter Bite

I had a client cancel for this afternoon and hit Jobs Lane to check out the sales.
It was VERY COLD out. This ice is holding on with a southern exposure in the full sun.

Baked Stuffed Salmon

Waldbaums had some very nice whole salmon in today. I got in the mood to bone and stuff one for dinner.
Bone the fish leaving it mostly whole. Saute a coarse chop of onion, fennel and celery with some salt, pepper and tarragon ad a bit of cooked rise or bread crumbs. Fold the fish about the veg mix, tie it closed with string. bake at 350 till done a bit over 30 min. Let rest and serve.

Winter Blast

This week a snow squall got stuck on the south fork. The result, we got about 4 inches of snow with almost nothing on the rest of Long Island. This really is a micro climate out here.

After years of deliberation the old watch factory in Sag Harbor is getting a huge makeover. It promises to be exciting new living units.

Black Ice

When the ground is warm and the air suddenly gets very cold it is easy to get an ice build up on the roads.

Hi Over There

Today I was up on the North Fork. This view of the Hamptons is looking south over the Peconic Bay. The bay was exceptionally flat today.

From the North Edge

With all the wind today the Peconic Bay was rocking. These sea gulls just hovered over the beach riding the wind as it came off the bay.

Duck Soup

They are actually Canadian Geese and the other half of the pond is just as crowded. As I got closer to the pond the birds got very loud.

Modern Make-over

In the 1980's this home was a very plain home used as student housing for Southampton College. Recently the home got a head to toe renovation with excellent detailing both inside and out.

Mixed Greens

Our mild winter has been good news for this nice mix of moss and lichens growing about the base of the oak tree.

Heat Wave Southampton

With a spike in winter temperatures predicted we heated up the pool for a day. We still need the covers directly on the water to build the heat up. Once warmed the new domed cover made swimming very comfortable with plenty of head room. The warm steamy interior made for foggy photos.

Still Pond

Living near the ocean is almost always a bit of wind or even a breeze. Today was a rare still day even though rain is supposed to be on it's way. The still water gave this fine refection.

Quick Fix

These pots are bedded out with annuals in the summer for a full bloom. In winter they look barren. Poking some holly cuttings in the potting soil dresses them up. I will let you know how they last.

Winter Sun

Sun light on the pool in winter.

Exposed

It turns out there are many structures in the Southampton beach that are now revealed. It will be interesting to see if the winter storms replace some of the sand taken away by Sandy.

Quick Fix

I was lucky to get this pot dressed with holly cuttings before the cold snap hit and set the earth rock hard.
