Wainscott Sand and Gravel has a nice operation in a big hole off Brick Kiln Road.
We went there to get new crushed stone for my driveway.

These sculptures on the Bridgehampton polo grounds remind me most of
the Easter Island Moai.

Bird Food

This sun flower grew from a missed bird seed. The bees in the flower are having a good time so covered in yellow pollen that they are hard to spot.

Timber

Big orange trucks TREE SCAPES came today and took down my black locust. The tree needed to come down as it had rot in its core and carpenter ants to boot. My yard seems to look bigger without the tree.

They took great  care to protect my property including laying plywood to protect the lawn as branches came down.
After the tree was cut up we saw the rot I had been told was there.

This is one of a few beams that need to go.

This is the first bin of old wood going to the dump.

New pressure treated wood for the project.

House Guests

We started to repair the front porch today and found that all sorts of insects had made homes in the porch walls. The two wasp nests we found in this section were not active.

Summer Veg

The Halsey Farm Stand on Deerfield Road opened July 1st. I found a recipe for pickled beets in the new Jackson Pollock cook book, I am giving it a try.

Tigers in My Yard

Some people call day lilies, tiger lilies. Tiger Lilies have a single woody stem with a turk's-cap shaped bloom at the tip. The orange version of this flower grow wild on roadsides in the Berkshires' have them in my garden in a few colors.
The bulbs are planted in the spring and look like garlic.

Smoke Signals

If plants made fireworks it might look like this smoke bush that opened just in time with the 4th of July.

Edge of Summer

I have been tracking Tom's garden this year. Here is the lead bed in early July.
