Polar Vortex

After the Texans left we got the polar vorTex. This bowl of water formed a block of ice overnight.

Is Montauk part of the Hamptons. I still do not know.

Break Out

After a few days of rain the skies cleared here for Christmas and travels.

It can be hard to make a nice photo with three days of rain. Here we are checking in for two nights in Maryland.

Distant Shores

The distant cut from Mecox Bay to the ocean at Flying Point. The sun was just hitting the sand there and no other place.

This strange fruit is an Osage Orange. They are an ornamental fruit with no know food use.

More Gas

This monster feeds a much larger home than mine with it's huge pipes and fittings.

Key Features

Many of the better new homes I have seen this season include a large section of glass doors that can be folded back opening a wall onto a porch or patio. It all feels very LA to me.

Flip the Bird

When I roast a Turkey or bird I cook it in the conventional way, with the bird on it's back legs up. This bird was salted and rubbed with lemon then cooked at 350.

I added some stock to the roasting pan and basted the bird 3 times in the 4 hour cooking time. This felt like a moist bird and it did not need much attention.

When the bird came out of the oven I turned the roast over with the breast under and the back up. This step is critical as it encourages the juices to move into the breast meat.

A jacket of foil keeps the heat uniform as the roast rests before carving.

 

 

TIdal Pool

As a child arriving at the beach to find a mini ocean was a great treat. The strip of water split off from the ocean often isolated exciting discoveries.  Today we had a very long pool at South Main Beach, I did not spot any gems today.

New Machines

Becher & Becher look out, big gray machines have come to my house. This week National Grid decided that I needed a new larger and improved gas meter.

Winter's Eve

People ask me what the winter is like on the Eastend. When it's wet for a week straight it often looks a lot like this. Water Mill farm country and local vines.

The light at the beach today at 4pm was very cool as it caught just the tips of the foam.

And then a great sunset.

What I Do

My client likes Marilyn Monroe. From shopping Ebay & Lumas we came up with a full wall of reprints of vintage photos. I hung the collection this evening.

Holiday Cheer

The North Sea Community House is all lit up for the holidays.

Rudolph Southampton

Rudolph was spotted at Little Plains beach today braving the storm. He might also be spotted on CBS tonight.

Storm Time

We have some weather coming for Tuesday.

Surf is UP

I went down to the beach for a look at the waves. The surf was rocking with a few surfers taking a ride. They looked like surfing seals on their complete black rubber skin.

Jewl Tones

The village changed the colors of the tree lights this year. Very nice!

Tree Force

Roots from maple trees on Elm Street have reeked havoc with a rare village sidewalk.

 

Night Light

This lamp marks a bend in the road just before the lake.

Turn Around

I continue to be surprised about the number of modern flat top homes getting built out east. Part of this might be improvements in roof technology.

Coming Home

Tonight we came home on starship virgin Atlantic. It was very nice and it is good to be home.
