Twisted

Bits of seaweed get trapped in the sand. Then the wind blows the stem in a circle making this fun wear pattern that shows in late day sun.

Gin Lane, Southampton New York. The home on the right side of the street are ocean front, the homes to the left, more protected from the ocean often have fine gardens.

Stormy Day

It was a stormy day at the beach today. Most shots had way too many water spots from drops on my camera lens.

Blow Back

The other day the wind was blowing very hard off the land. So hard the wave's break has a long tail blown back out into the ocean. 

Viewing Towers

This raised platform, accessed by a bridge from the master bedroom has a very intimate feel to it when you are there. Lifting the deck allows for a great view over the reeds.

Ant View

I was sitting at lunch this summer and realized that I could see the underside of your umbrella and the sky beyond in my soup spoon. Nice clean spoon.

Hold that Line

This hedgerow of weeds is the line between the estate lawns and the open sand beach.

Beach Access

Groomed to perfection. The estate area in Southampton has tailored lawns and gardens right up to the beach. The hedges and road just run right up to the ocean. 

Drones in the Hamptons

Drones have come to the Hamptons to aid in showing property. This rig was used to photo this stylish lake front property.

That's a lot of Clams

This is just a small section of a long strip of empty clam shells that washed up on the beach at Little Plains Beach, Southampton

Farm Country

Still popular with farmers Sagaponac has broad flat areas accented with long ponds the call creeks. The "creeks are often separated from the ocean by just a dune line.

I was impressed with the choice of this Chippendale gallery on the roof of a newer home in Southampton Village.

Seems hard to imagine that we are looking at these flowers in November.

Retail Style in East Hampton

The entrance to Tiffany on Main St. in East Hampton is very unassuming but then opens into this large dramatic two story space.

Clear Skys

After yesterdays stormy weather today we had bright blue skys. We have not had much rain this fall. It also seems that storms have had less rain than predicted. 

Dune Managment

Wood fencing is set at the beach to help dunes grow back.

Main Street

This stripe in the middle of Main St. Southampton Village, is connected to other road stripes all the way to the west coast. I can remember a lot of that drive. 

Bears seen in the Hamptons

This summer I spotted these Polar Bears in the Hamptons. With lots of  nice cool swimming pools, air-conditioning and limited ice at home this seems possible. Maybe they are also attracted to our plentiful supply of garden fed deer.

This spot in the parking lot is one reason why raodways no longer wash direct into the creeks and bays.

Modern Drainage

It turns out that the water the runs off your roads is not good for our fish. An effort is being made to catch all direct road water into dry wells so pollutants can be controlled.

Almost New England

Southampton NY is due south of the center on Connecticut. At  times the area identifies more as part on New England than the mid Atlantic states. This sugar maple set in front of an early white colonial home fits with that idea.

Fall Fields

Just before sunset the light rakes over the tips of plants making the meadows glow. 

Cold Snap

Last week we had a dip in the tempature. The cold seems to pump up the color in the trees.

Sky of Fire

It was stormy most of the day. The storm passed and sky broke open right at sunset making a great sunset.
