This simple shingle beach cottage has become a rare site on the ocean front in the hamptons. Most homes like this have long been replaced by more modern designs.

Exposed
When this home was built the owners were concerned that they would not have a view of the surf. Now that the dunes have been washed away I expect they have a more open view.

Lead Bottom
When the big snow hit, the ground was still very warm. After the snow fell it melted back up into newer show. This made digging out into heavy work. Here you can see the water saturating the snow base.

Flip Flop
The pool cover had a hard time with the big last two weeks ago. It seems that the high wind put most of the snow on one side causing the arch to pop. I have now reset the cover and all seems back in order.

Limited Parking
This small sheltered corner on Mecox Bay seems to be the popular spot wintering birds. Swans do not like to share with other swans but seem to tolerate these mallards.

Melt Down
Evidence of our big snow storm is almost gone. We have had some cold days, but the earth still seems warm and a few days of bright sun has melted most of the snow away.

Engineered Snow Drift
A snow fence set about 50 feet north of Wickapogue Road places the snow drift just short of the road.

North Sea
With the north wind we have been having I can see why the English thought on there North Sea when naming the area.

Crisp New Look
This home was due for a new skin. Many homes today chose to put a wider trim around the windows with corner boards. We chose to keep the thinner window frames and re-shingled without the corner broads. This gave the house a clean sleeker look.

Twisted
When I got home after the storm I fiund the pool cover popped. It seems that the snow loaded onto the east side of the pool cover. The covers folded but did not tear. Yesterday we reset the cover pannels.

New Contours
The beach in Southampton has a new shape. The dune line has been reduced, but once on the beach it seems much flatter than before Sandy. This has resulted in more gradual surf line. If the winter storms do not change the beach yet again, this will make for a fun summer.

Pile UP
When they cleared Bowden Square a lot of the snow got left in front my my place. Its a bit of a trick to hook into the driveway.

A Bit Lacking
With the storm coming I had a go at wrapping my boxwood in burlap to protect the branches from snow damage. This is clearly a skill set I will need to work on for future storms.

Winter Fashion
With snow on the way smart shrubs will be wearing burlap this season. These winter covers appear finely tailored.

Discreet
It was a very gray day here today with moments of snow and stuff. Bluff top view over Peconic Bay and Robins Island

New Rings
It seems that the water that comes off roads when it rains has oil and dust made up of worn tire. It turns out this all can be toxic to wetlands. Street drains that used to dump into local waterways are now being directed into dry wells. SAVE THE CLAMS.

Old Walls
I like this old brick wall next to the South Main Beach access. Most of the wall in covered in leaves for the summer season.
