Beach Breach

Last night the ocean came up over dunes, through the parking lot and crossed Gin Lane. This is a deeper wash into the estate section than I can recall.

We are having some storm here today.

The ocean is a lot more churned up today and the storm is still a day away.

Lull Before

We are being told to expect a very large storm on Monday and Tuesday. I went down to the beach this afternoon. It all looked very calm.

Water by Water

This home is built just across the street from ocean front homes. The north and west sides of the property sit on lovely Sam's Creek with fine sunset over water views in the evening.

Early beach cottages in the estate area had many built-ins. This helped to simplify furnishing the home and made for a clean uniform look in keeping with the architecture. Note the colored glass detail in the window frames.

Dusk

Our main highway runs east west. So in the morning one is driving into the rising sun, then in the evening we many are driving back home into the setting sun. Tonight we got a very nice sunset.

Plumped Up

These birds seem as interested in people as the people are interested in them.

Built for the Eliments

Newer homes being built on the ocean seem to have a lot more steel than new homes built in land. This home is all framed out in steel. The strength of steel enables some dramatic deign with long spans and deep overhangs.

When a field of potatoes gets harvested it is now done by machine. It seems that a lot of potatoes can get left behind.

I was impressed by the very neat work done in the utility room of this new home in Bridge Hampton.

Not Just Wine

For years local farms have been growing wine grapes. Now beer made at the Southampton Publick House is now shipped all over.

Real Red

It is the Sugar Maple that turns this bright red color. We do not have many Maple trees in the Hamptons and few of those are the Sugar Maple. More typical in New England this run of trees on Deerfield Road is a fun treat to see.

Modern Movement in 2012

Great Hill Road just north of Southampton Village has become a hot bed of new modernist homes. The area has some nice large wooded plots with distant water views. Exciting new homes have sprung up to take advantage.

Fall Explosion

Most plants explode into bloom in the Spring. Milkweed explodes in the fall to sending their seed sailing for the next year.

Up and Up

I think the Ponquogue Bridge over Shinnecock Bay in Hampton Bays might be the tallest manmade structure in the Hamptons. The view from the top is excelent but often windy.

Evening

Just a nice quiet evening at the beach.

Cottage Garden

A cottage garden like this is relatively new to the hamptons. maybe because stones like this are not local to this area. Most of these rocks come from old stone walls in Pennsylvania. They show up with nice moss and lichen all set to be set like they have always been here. Our local rocks tend to be very rounded after a tumble in the ocean or a glacier and need mortar to stay put in a wall.

I liked this Morning Glory with just a streak of blue like it was just brushed into the bloom.
